As an essential part of the World Series the IRONMAN 70.3, one of the greatest and hardest endurance competitions, is taking place in Zell am See-Kaprun, Bruck, Maishofen, and Piesendorf. On 26th August 2012 the athletes are competing against each other in swimming, cycling and running. Lake Zell and the Alpine landscape of the province of Salzburg are the perfect venue for all disciplines.

It was its perfect infrastructure and its unique natural environment that tipped the balance in favour of the attractive region Zell am See-Kaprun as the event's venue. Thanks to Lake Zell, boasting drinking water quality, and the excellently developed cycling trails in the neighbouring communities of Bruck, Maishofen, and Piesendorf, the participating athletes will profit from great conditions allowing a perfect competition. Zell am See-Kaprun offers everything for a triathlon event of this scale including 1.9 kilometres swimming, 90 kilometres cycling, and 21.1 kilometres running. The good travel connections and an international airport nearby facilitate the journey to the region for athletes from all over the globe.

'We expect the IRONMAN 70.3 to be a motor for sports, tourism, and economy in Zell am See-Kaprun ', explains vice governor Dr. Wilfried Haslauer. A comparable competition in St. Pölten brings an economic benefit of 5.2 million euros. Every athlete tends to be accompanied by one or two persons - this should be reflected in about 7.500 additional overnight stays in the first year.

'The tremendous advertising and image value brought about by the global media coverage will contribute their share to making Zell am See-Kaprun and the province of Salzburg more widely known around the globe', says Mag. Renate Ecker, management of the Zell am See-Kaprun Tourismus GmbH.

'I am very pleased that this essential event for sport and tourism will be staged in Salzburg for the next three years. The province will sponsor the IRONMAN 70.3 event with 100,000 euros annually. And this is a good investment. After all, it is our intention to consolidate the excellent reputation of the province of Salzburg as a sporting region by staging first-class events here', vice governor Mag. David Brenner explains.

The first 500 athletes to register for the IRONMAN 70.3 in Zell am See-Kaprun as individual starters will profit from a very special deal: instead of 210 euros, the registration fee will only be 159 euros. From 1st June registration is open at www.ironmansalzburg.com. All information on the competition as well as the course of the races can be found on the event's homepage, too.
