Freeriding: powder skiing and snowboarding

Freeriding in the Salzburger region is an unforgettable experience. Discover a winter wonderland of deserted ski slopes and off-piste, virgin powder snow amid extensive backcountry. Blue skies, awesome scenery and serene tranquillity await you on the Kitzsteinhorn above Kaprun and in many other superb spots around Saalbach-Hinterglemm, Gastein and Maria Alm, among others. With or without a local guide, preparation is essential, so book a workshop to learn everything you need to know for the safest of freeriding experiences.

Safe powder fun

The most original way of speeding through powder snow, freeriding is booming. An ever-increasing number of winter sports enthusiasts find the terrain irresistible, impassioned by both the powder snow and adrenaline rush that goes with it. In response to this, the Gasteiner mountain lift company has developed freeride routes together with a ‘Freeride Infobase’, a feature aimed to make powder-skiing safer. In future, this new information and guidance system will support safe backcountry fun at Sportgastein, as well as making the freeride experience accessible to differing levels of ability. The ‘beep’ station also allows you to practise an emergency in realistic conditions so that you are fully prepared for your freeride experience.

Freeride experiences at their best

The Kitzsteinhorn is the freeride El Dorado of the Salzburger region. Here too, there is a Freeride-Infobase, which offers all the most important information. Specially designated routes ensure the best of freeride experiences. Snowparks and annual contests round off the freeriding experience on the Kitzsteinhorn. Extensive freeride hotspots can also be found in Saalbach-Hinterglemm and Maria Alm.
